Good to know at Uber Eats
Uber Eats orders code as dining — restaurants, MCC 5812 — at Amex, Chase, Capital One and Citi, which is the opposite category from Uber rides booked in the very same app. That quirk decides this ranking: our #1 is the U.S. Bank Altitude Go Visa Signature Card, which earns 4x on dining on your first $2,000 each quarter and 1x after that. With points worth a straightforward one cent and no annual fee attached, that is 4% back on delivery with no fee-versus-rate math to run.
The American Express Gold Card nearly matches it at 4x at U.S. restaurants on up to $50,000 a year, but its $325 annual fee means it has to earn its keep beyond delivery. It does bring one Uber Eats-specific sweetener: $10 in Uber Cash each month applies to Uber Eats orders — a credit, not an earn rate, but real money if you order regularly. Below those two, the Aeroplan Card earns 3x, worth about 3.9% by our valuation (3x at 1.3 cents per point), followed by Capital One Savor Cash Rewards (formerly SavorOne) at 3% cash back and Chase Sapphire Preferred or Chase Sapphire Reserve at 3x on dining.
One warning before you trust the table: the DoorDash Rewards Mastercard shows 3% on dining, but that rate requires paying a restaurant directly — route the same meal through Uber Eats and it earns just 1%. As for strategy, the Altitude Go's $2,000 quarterly cap works out to roughly $667 a month of food before the rate falls to 1x. Most households never touch it; if you clear it regularly, let the American Express Gold Card or one of the 3x cards catch the overflow.
The math
Spend $400 a month at Uber Eats and U.S. Bank Altitude Go Visa Signature Card returns about $192 a year at our valuations — a flat 2% card returns $96.
Common questions
- What is the best credit card at Uber Eats?
- U.S. Bank Altitude Go Visa Signature Card earns the most at Uber Eats right now at 4x.
- How does SwipeCaddy pick the best card at Uber Eats?
- We rank each card by its reward rate times a conservative cash value of its points or miles — no inflated transfer valuations — and apply Uber Eats's card-acceptance rules, so the "best" card is one you can actually use at the register.
- Does Uber Eats count as dining for credit card rewards?
- Yes. Uber Eats orders code as restaurants (MCC 5812) at Amex, Chase, Capital One and Citi, so dining multipliers like the U.S. Bank Altitude Go Visa Signature Card's 4x apply in full. Mind the flip side: rides booked in the same Uber app fall into the opposite category, so don't assume one card covers both halves of the app.
- Why does the DoorDash Rewards Mastercard earn only 1% at Uber Eats?
- Its 3% dining rate applies only when you pay a restaurant directly. An Uber Eats order is paid to the platform, not to the restaurant, so the card falls back to its 1% base rate. It is a fine card for DoorDash loyalists, but at Uber Eats it is the wrong tool despite the dining rate our table shows.
