The Aeroplan Card fits households that already route dining and groceries through one card and fly Air Canada at least occasionally. It earns 3x Aeroplan points on dining and on groceries, where it ranks third in both of SwipeCaddy's category tables, plus 3x on purchases made directly with Air Canada. Everything outside those lanes earns the 1x base rate.
The tradeoff is the $95 annual fee and the currency itself. A point is not a cent: SwipeCaddy values Aeroplan points at 1.3 cents each, which makes 3x roughly a 3.9% return only when you redeem well.
