The 5% carries a cap, and it is a cap on rewards rather than on spending: $350 of cash back per calendar year across gas and EV charging combined, after which both fall to 1%. At 5% that ceiling arrives at roughly $7,000 of fuel a year — about $583 a month, which is more than most single-car households burn but reachable for a commuter or a two-driver family. The 3% on groceries, dining and travel is uncapped, so those keep earning at the same rate all year even after the fuel bonus is spent.
