Good to know at Amazon

Amazon takes every major card network, in store and online, and the ranking is the same in both channels, so this is less about acceptance and more about membership. All three 5% options — the Amazon Store Card, the Prime Visa, and the Prime Business Card — carry no annual fee, but every one of them requires a membership. Without a membership, the top of this table is simply out of reach.

The fine print thickens as you move down. The Prime Business Card is the only 5% option flagged with a combined cap and a lower rate once you pass it. The 3% tier — Blue Cash Everyday Card from American Express and Bank of America Customized Cash Rewards — is capped too, and the Bank of America card only pays 3% if you choose this category. Caps rarely bite light spenders, but heavy Amazon households should read them first.

No membership and no interest in a store card? A flat 2% floor still does respectable work here. Blue Business Cash Card from American Express and The Blue Business Plus Credit Card from American Express both pay the equivalent of 2% on up to $50,000 a year, and Apple Card matches that 2% when you pay through the mobile wallet. The 5% cards only pull ahead meaningfully if Amazon is a serious line in your budget.

The math

Spend $300 a month at Amazon and Amazon Store Card returns about $180 a year at our valuations — a flat 2% card returns $72.

Common questions

What is the best credit card at Amazon?
Amazon Store Card earns the most at Amazon right now at 5%.
How does SwipeCaddy pick the best card at Amazon?
We rank each card by its reward rate times a conservative cash value of its points or miles — no inflated transfer valuations — and apply Amazon's card-acceptance rules, so the "best" card is one you can actually use at the register.
Do I need Amazon Prime to earn 5% back at Amazon?
For the Amazon Store Card and the Prime Business Card, yes — both are flagged as requiring Amazon Prime. The Prime Visa lists a membership requirement as its only catch. None of the three charges an annual fee, so if a membership isn't worth it to you on its own, work from the 3% and 2% cards instead.
Is there a spending cap on the 5% cards at Amazon?
Only one is flagged: the Prime Business Card carries a combined cap with a lower rate after you cross it. The Amazon Store Card and the Prime Visa list only their membership requirements. If your Amazon spending is heavy, favor one of the two 5% cards with no cap flagged and treat the business card as the backup.

Rates reflect each card's best case at this merchant and can change; check the issuer's terms before applying.
