Good to know at Etsy
Etsy is an online-only marketplace, and it takes cards on every major network, so acceptance never decides this ranking. No store card shows up in this ranking, either. What separates the field is plain cash-back structure: the Blue Cash Everyday Card from American Express leads at 3% with no annual fee, followed by the Bank of America Customized Cash Rewards at the same 3% rate.
Both 3% cards come with homework. The Amex card caps eligible spending and drops to a lower rate after the cap, and its 3% applies at U.S. merchants only. The Bank of America card only pays 3% if you have selected this category, and its cap is combined across categories before the rate steps down. If you shop Etsy heavily, know where your cap stands.
If neither 3% card is in your wallet, the 2% tier is a solid floor. The Blue Business Cash and The Blue Business Plus cards from American Express earn 2% or 2x on up to $50,000 a year with no annual fee, and the Apple Card pays 2% when you pay through the mobile wallet. Capital One's cards in this ranking match that 2% but charge $95 to $395 a year, so the fee has to justify itself outside Etsy.
The math
Spend $300 a month at Etsy and Blue Cash Everyday Card from American Express returns about $108 a year at our valuations — a flat 2% card returns $72.
Common questions
- What is the best credit card at Etsy?
- Blue Cash Everyday Card from American Express earns the most at Etsy right now at 3%.
- How does SwipeCaddy pick the best card at Etsy?
- We rank each card by its reward rate times a conservative cash value of its points or miles — no inflated transfer valuations — and apply Etsy's card-acceptance rules, so the "best" card is one you can actually use at the register.
- Do the top cards for Etsy have spending caps?
- Most of them do. Both 3% options cap the spending that earns the full rate and pay a lower rate after that, and the Bank of America cap is combined across its categories. The two Amex business cards apply their 2% or 2x rate on up to $50,000 a year. Before a big Etsy order, check how much cap you have left.
- Is a flat 2% card good enough for Etsy purchases?
- It is a reasonable default. The leaders pay 3%, a one-point edge, but they bring caps, a category selection for the Bank of America card, and a U.S.-merchants restriction on the Amex. A no-annual-fee 2% card, like the Apple Card paid through the mobile wallet, has far less fine print. Use a 3% card while you are under its cap, then fall back to 2%.
Rates reflect each card's best case at this merchant and can change; check the issuer's terms before applying.
