Good to know at Lyft
Rideshare is one of the few places where a card bonuses a single brand rather than a category, so Lyft and Uber can pay different rates in the same wallet. That is why Lyft gets its own page here instead of being folded into transit. If your card names Lyft specifically, the rate on this page applies; if it only names transit or commuting, you are earning the broader category rate and Uber earns the same.
The Bilt Blue card is the clearest brand-specific case. Linking your Bilt and Lyft accounts adds 2X on top of the card's 1X base, for 3X total on eligible rides, and the link is the condition — without it you are back to the base rate. Several other cards reach Lyft through a general transit category instead: the Blue Cash Preferred pays 3% on transit including rideshare, and the Prime Visa pays 2% on local transit and commuting, rideshare included.
Because these bonuses attach to the ride rather than the category, they usually survive whichever payment method the app charges. Watch the exclusions, though: gift cards, bike and scooter rentals, and some subscription products are frequently carved out of the brand-specific offers even when ordinary rides qualify.
The math
Spend $150 a month at Lyft and Chase Freedom Flex returns about $90 a year at our valuations — a flat 2% card returns $36.
Common questions
- What is the best credit card at Lyft?
- Chase Freedom Flex earns the most at Lyft right now at 5x.
- How does SwipeCaddy pick the best card at Lyft?
- We rank each card by its reward rate times a conservative cash value of its points or miles — no inflated transfer valuations — and apply Lyft's card-acceptance rules, so the "best" card is one you can actually use at the register.
- Does my Lyft card bonus also apply to Uber?
- It depends on how the card words the benefit. A card that bonuses transit or commuting generally will cover both Lyft and Uber, because rideshare sits inside that category. A card that names Lyft specifically, the way Bilt does through its account link, pays the higher rate on Lyft only, and Uber rides fall back to the card's base rate.
- Do I have to do anything to earn the Lyft rate?
- For brand-specific offers, usually yes. Bilt requires you to link your Bilt and Lyft accounts before the extra points apply, and the bonus does not backfill rides taken before the link. Category-based transit bonuses need no setup and apply automatically. Check the enrollment caveat on the card before assuming the higher rate is active.
