Good to know at Hulu

Hulu has a runaway leader: the Disney Inspire Visa Card earns 10% in Disney Rewards Dollars on subscriptions and add-ons billed directly at Hulu.com. Rewards Dollars redeem through Pay Yourself Back against Disney purchases and airline tickets rather than as straight cash, so we value them at a conservative 0.9 cents each — call it roughly 9% back, still well above the next card down. Hulu billed through the Disney+ bundle counts as direct Disney billing, so bundle subscribers earn the same 10%.

The rate turns on who sends the bill. Only charges from Hulu.com or the Disney bundle qualify; pay through an app store, your phone carrier, or a cable package and the Inspire drops to its 1% base — worth switching your billing before you switch your card. The other caveat is the $149 annual fee: at 10%, even a $20-a-month plan returns about $24 a year, nowhere near break-even on Hulu alone. The card pencils out for Disney households that also use its 3% on gas and 2% on groceries and dining, not as a single-purpose streaming card.

If a $149 co-brand is a stretch, the runner-up needs no Disney loyalty at all. The Blue Cash Preferred Card from American Express pays 6% on select U.S. streaming subscriptions, Hulu included, for a $95 annual fee it can recoup across every service you stream — plus 6% at U.S. supermarkets up to $6,000 a year. Fee-averse wallets still do fine: the Wells Fargo Attune Card earns an uncapped 4% on streaming and the Capital One Savor Cash Rewards a flat 3%, both with no annual fee.

The math

Spend $80 a month at Hulu and Disney Inspire Visa Card returns about $86 a year at our valuations — a flat 2% card returns $19.

Common questions

What is the best credit card at Hulu?
Disney Inspire Visa Card earns the most at Hulu right now at 10%.
How does SwipeCaddy pick the best card at Hulu?
We rank each card by its reward rate times a conservative cash value of its points or miles — no inflated transfer valuations — and apply Hulu's card-acceptance rules, so the "best" card is one you can actually use at the register.
Does Hulu through the Disney+ bundle still earn the Disney Inspire's 10%?
Yes. The bundle is billed directly by Disney, and the Disney Inspire Visa Card treats that the same as a direct Hulu.com charge, so the full 10% in Disney Rewards Dollars applies — add-ons included. What breaks the rate is third-party billing: subscriptions paid through an app store, phone carrier, or cable provider fall to the card's 1% base rate.
Is the Disney Inspire Visa Card worth $149 a year just for Hulu?
Not on Hulu alone — 10% of a typical subscription is roughly $20 to $25 a year, far short of the fee. It earns its keep in Disney households that also tap the 3% on gas, 2% on groceries and dining, and the parks perks. If Hulu is the main event, the $95 Blue Cash Preferred Card from American Express at 6% on streaming, or the fee-free Wells Fargo Attune Card at 4%, is the saner math.
