Our take
The Autograph is built for people whose monthly bills, not their grocery runs, drive their spending. It earns 3x points across nine categories — dining, gas, EV charging, flights, hotels, other travel, transit and rideshare, streaming, and phone and internet — with no annual fee. In SwipeCaddy's rankings it sits second for transit and rideshare and fourth for streaming, which tells you where it genuinely competes.
The tradeoff is the currency. You earn Wells Fargo Rewards points, and SwipeCaddy's ranking values them at one cent each, so 3x works out to a straightforward 3 percent back. Outside the nine bonus categories everything drops to the 1x base rate, groceries included. There is no signup bonus and no listed perks to pad the math, so the ongoing category rates have to carry the entire case for this card.
In a small wallet, the Autograph plays the specialist. Hand it the recurring bills — streaming, phone, transit — plus dining, gas, and travel, and route groceries and everything uncategorized to a flat-rate card that clears its 1x floor. That split covers most household spending: the Autograph wins the nine categories it boosts, and the flat card quietly takes the rest.
The math
Run $400 a month of dining through this card and you're earning about $144 a year at our conservative valuations. There's no annual fee to earn back — everything above the 1x base rate is pure upside.

Common questions
- Does Wells Fargo Autograph Card have an annual fee?
- No — Wells Fargo Autograph Card has no annual fee.
- What does Wells Fargo Autograph Card earn on dining?
- 3x on dining.
- What rewards does Wells Fargo Autograph Card earn on everything else?
- 1x on all other purchases, in Wells Fargo Rewards.
- What's the catch with the Autograph's 3x categories?
- There isn't much of one. The 3x rate is unlimited — no spending caps, no quarterly activation, and no rotating calendar to track across the nine categories. The real limitation is coverage: groceries, online shopping, and anything else outside those categories earn the 1x base rate. Check where your biggest monthly line items fall before making it your default card.
- Does the Wells Fargo Autograph Card charge foreign transaction fees?
- No. The Autograph charges no foreign transaction fee, so paying abroad adds nothing to the bill. Its travel categories — flights, hotels, and other travel — earn 3x points, and so do dining and transit, which makes it a reasonable card to book trips and settle restaurant tabs with rather than a backup. It runs on Visa, so confirm network acceptance where you're headed.
