IHG One Rewards Traveler Credit Card
Chase · Mastercard · No annual fee · Earns IHG One Rewards
A rare $0 card with a 2x floor on everything and 3x on utilities, internet/cable/phone, select streaming, dining and gas — but IHG points are conservatively valued, so the effective rates are roughly half the multipliers. The 'up to 17x' at IHG hotels stacks member and status earn on the card's 5x.

Our take
The IHG One Rewards Traveler looks like a math error in your favor: a $0-annual-fee card that pays 2x on literally everything and 3x on utilities, internet, cable and phone, select streaming, dining and gas. Here is the catch, up front: IHG points are conservatively worth about half a cent each, so those multipliers are really returning roughly 1% and 1.5% — about half of what the numbers on the box suggest.
Run it against a plain flat-2% cash-back card and the Traveler loses almost everywhere. Put $100 of dining on it and you get 300 points — call it $1.50 toward an IHG room — while the 2% card hands back $2.00 with no redemption homework. The 2x floor works out near 1%, half the cash baseline. If you do not sleep in IHG hotels, there is no spending category on this card that beats boring cash.
Where the card actually earns is inside the IHG ecosystem. It pays 5x at hotels participating in IHG One Rewards — about 2.5% back toward stays — and the 'up to 17x' in the marketing stacks base-member and Silver Elite earn on top of that 5x, not instead of it. The welcome offer is 80,000 points after $2,000 in purchases in the first 90 days, worth roughly $400 at half a cent. And the sleeper benefit: the fourth reward night free on award stays of four or more nights — effectively 25% off every four-night redemption.
So the Traveler's wallet job is narrow and honest: it is the $0 membership card for IHG loyalists, not an everyday earner. Keep it for the automatic Silver Elite status, the lack of foreign transaction fees on trips, the fourth-night-free trick, and 5x when you are actually at an IHG property — then hand dining, gas and everything else to a flat 2% card. Within Chase's IHG lineup it is the no-fee entry point: guests who stay often enough that a fee-carrying Premier sibling would pay for itself should step up, while everyone else gets the good IHG perks here at zero carrying cost.
The math
Run $400 a month of dining through this card and you're earning about $72 a year at our conservative valuations. There's no annual fee to earn back — everything above the 2x base rate is pure upside.

Common questions
- Does IHG One Rewards Traveler Credit Card have an annual fee?
- No — IHG One Rewards Traveler Credit Card has no annual fee.
- What does IHG One Rewards Traveler Credit Card earn on dining?
- 3x on dining.
- What rewards does IHG One Rewards Traveler Credit Card earn on everything else?
- 2x on all other purchases, in IHG One Rewards.
- Is 3x on dining and gas better than a 2% cash-back card?
- Usually not. At a conservative half cent per point, 3x returns about 1.5% toward IHG stays, so a flat 2% cash card wins on every 3x category — and the 2x floor is roughly 1%. The multipliers only pull ahead if you redeem IHG points at above-average value.
- What is the fourth reward night free actually worth?
- On any award stay of four or more nights, the fourth night's points are free — effectively 25% off the redemption. For a regular IHG guest, this single benefit can return more real value per year than all the card's spending multipliers combined, and it costs nothing since the annual fee is $0.
- What is the welcome bonus, and is it worth earning?
- 80,000 IHG One Rewards points after $2,000 in purchases within the first 90 days. Valued conservatively at half a cent each, that is about $400 toward stays — a strong return on a $0-annual-fee card, especially if you pair the points with the fourth-night-free benefit.
