Wells Fargo Autograph Journey Visa Card
Wells Fargo · Visa · $95/yr · Earns Wells Fargo Rewards
The travel-heavy Autograph: 5x on hotels, 4x on airlines, 3x on other travel and restaurants. Wells Fargo's terms set these by merchant category, so a hotel booked through a travel agency still counts — but restaurant earn excludes bakeries, grocery stores and third-party delivery apps.

Our take
The Autograph Journey is the travel-weighted sibling of Wells Fargo's no-fee Autograph: 5x on hotels, 4x on airlines, and 3x on other travel and at restaurants, for a $95 annual fee. Points are worth a cent toward cash or travel, and there are no foreign transaction fees.
Its quiet advantage is in the terms rather than the headline. Wells Fargo defines these categories by merchant category code, not by where you booked, so a hotel stay still earns 5x when it runs through a travel agency instead of the hotel's own site. That is the opposite of the cards above it on our hotels ranking, whose bigger multipliers are locked to a specific booking portal and pay out in airline miles.
The $50 annual statement credit, triggered by any single airline purchase of $50 or more, covers more than half the fee before you count a single point. The exclusion worth knowing is on dining: bakeries, grocery stores and third-party delivery apps do not earn the 3x, so a restaurant charge placed through a delivery platform will not count the way you expect.
The math
Run $250 a month of hotels through this card and you're earning about $150 a year at our conservative valuations. Against the $95 annual fee, that top rate needs roughly $275 a month of hotels spend before it beats a no-fee flat 2% card.

Common questions
- Does Wells Fargo Autograph Journey Visa Card have an annual fee?
- Yes — $95 per year.
- What does Wells Fargo Autograph Journey Visa Card earn on hotels?
- 5x on hotels.
- What rewards does Wells Fargo Autograph Journey Visa Card earn on everything else?
- 1x on all other purchases, in Wells Fargo Rewards.
- Do I have to book hotels directly to earn 5x?
- No. Wells Fargo's terms award the bonus by merchant category code rather than by booking channel, so a hotel that codes as a hotel earns 5x whether you booked it on the property's site or through an agency. That flexibility is the card's main edge over portal-locked competitors.
- How does it compare to the no-fee Wells Fargo Autograph?
- The Journey pays more where you travel — 5x hotels and 4x airlines against the Autograph's flat 3x travel — and adds the $50 airline credit for its $95 fee. The original Autograph stays better for everyday spending, since its 3x covers gas, transit, streaming and phone plans with no annual fee at all.
