Our take
The Wells Fargo Attune Card closed to new applicants in mid-June 2026 — that is the first thing to know, because it reframes everything on this page. If you already hold it, nothing changes: the card and its rewards continue exactly as before, with a $0 annual fee and unlimited 4% cash rewards across three merchant-code groups against 1% on everything else. There is no signup bonus to weigh because there is no signing up. SwipeCaddy's public rankings deliberately exclude closed cards — recommending a card nobody can get helps no one — but if the Attune is in your wallet, your own wallet still ranks it, and it ranks well.
The 4% covers three groups defined by merchant category code, all unlimited, with no caps and no activation. Self-Care: gyms, fitness studios, salons and spas. Sports, Recreation and Entertainment: live event tickets, movie theaters, amusement parks, bowling, golf, zoos, sporting goods and hobby stores, plus a media sub-list of streaming, cable, books and record stores. Planet-Friendly: EV charging, public transit — buses, rail, ferries — and antique or secondhand stores. That is an unusually broad 4% for a card with no annual fee, and it is all still live for existing holders.
Two traps deserve a plain warning, because both are common misreadings. First, rideshare is not covered: public transit earns 4%, but Uber, Lyft and taxis process under MCC 4121, which is not in the Planet-Friendly group — a rideshare trip earns 1%. Second, veterinary care is not covered, despite several third-party reviews claiming it is. Wells Fargo's own category list includes pet shops, pet food and supplies stores, and boarding and grooming — vets are not on it. Judge by merchant code, not by vibe: the bus earns 4%, the Uber home earns 1%; the groomer earns 4%, the vet visit earns 1%.
So where does it belong now? In our engine the Attune carries 4% offers on pet supplies, EV charging, entertainment and streaming, and for a holder it takes the number-one slot at pet supplies — beating myWalgreens' roughly 2.7% — and ties the top of the board at EV charging. Its weaknesses are easy to route around: the 3% foreign transaction fee says leave it home when you travel, and the 1% base rate says hand everything uncategorized to a flat 2% card. With no annual fee it costs nothing to keep, so the play is simple: keep it, and let it be your wallet's specialist for gyms, tickets, transit, streaming and pet runs — with cell phone protection of up to $600 per claim riding along.

Common questions
- Does Wells Fargo Attune Card have an annual fee?
- No — Wells Fargo Attune Card has no annual fee.
- What rewards does Wells Fargo Attune Card earn on everything else?
- 1% on all other purchases, in Cash Back.
- Can I still apply for the Wells Fargo Attune Card?
- No. Wells Fargo closed the Attune to new applicants in mid-June 2026, and no signup bonus exists. Existing cardholders keep the card, its $0 annual fee and its rewards unchanged. Because it is closed, SwipeCaddy's public rankings deliberately leave it out — but if you already hold it, the app still ranks it inside your own wallet, where it remains one of the strongest no-fee earners.
- Does the Attune earn 4% on Uber, Lyft or taxis?
- No — this is the card's most common misreading. Public transit (buses, rail, ferries) sits in the Planet-Friendly group and earns 4%, but rideshare and taxis process under MCC 4121, which is not on the list, so an Uber or Lyft trip earns the 1% base rate. If rideshare is a big line in your budget, route it to another card and save the Attune for the fare card and the train.
- Is veterinary care covered by the Attune's 4%?
- No, despite third-party reviews that claim otherwise. Wells Fargo's category list covers pet shops, pet food and supplies stores, and boarding and grooming — veterinary care is not on it, so a vet bill earns 1%. The pet aisle is still where the card shines: for a holder it takes the number-one spot at pet supplies in our rankings, ahead of myWalgreens at roughly 2.7%.
