Our take

The Target Circle Card is a single-purpose tool: it takes 5% off eligible purchases at Target stores and Target.com, with no cap and no annual fee. If Target is where your household does most of its regular shopping, that discount adds up quietly on every trip. If you only stop in a few times a year, a general cash-back card will serve you better.

The mechanics are unusual and worth understanding. The 5% is an instant discount at checkout, not cash back you accrue and redeem later — there is no rewards balance to manage. The tradeoff is reach: this is a closed-loop store card from TD Bank that works only at Target. Outside those doors it earns nothing because it cannot be used at all, and there is no sign-up bonus to sweeten the deal.

Because it works nowhere else, the Target Circle Card can never be your only card. Treat it as a specialist: it covers Target, and a general-purpose card with a decent flat rate covers everything else. The discount applies broadly, too — clearance, Starbucks at Target, drive-up orders, specialty gift cards, and same-day delivery are all eligible — so there is little fine print to track once it is in your wallet.

Common questions

Does Target Circle Card have an annual fee?
No — Target Circle Card has no annual fee.
What rewards does Target Circle Card earn on everything else?
0% on all other purchases, in Cash Back.
Is the Target Circle Card the same as the Target RedCard?
Yes. The Target Circle Card is the former Target RedCard under a new name, issued by TD Bank. It gives a 5% instant discount at checkout on eligible purchases at Target stores and Target.com, with no cap and no annual fee. If you carry an older RedCard, you already hold this card.
Can I use the Target Circle Card anywhere besides Target?
No. It is a closed-loop store card, which means it runs only at Target stores and Target.com — it will not work at other merchants, and it earns nothing outside Target. Plan on pairing it with a general-purpose card for the rest of your spending, and pull out the Target Circle Card only when you are checking out at Target.
