This card fits Costco members who put real miles on a car. It pays 4% on gas and EV charging — good for fifth place in our gas ranking and third for EV charging — plus 3% on dining, flights, hotels, and other travel, and 2% at Costco and Costco.com. Rewards come as plain cash back, and there is no annual fee on top of your membership.

The fine print is the $7,000 cap: gas and EV charging earn 4% on up to $7,000 per year combined, then drop to 1%. Costco fuel does better at 5%. There is no signup bonus, the base rate everywhere else is 1%, and purchases at Costco itself earn a modest 2% — less than what the card pays at the pump or at restaurants.

In a small wallet this works as the pump-and-restaurant specialist, not the everyday card. Pair it with a flat-rate card that beats 1% for general spending, and reach for this one at gas stations, chargers, restaurants, and when booking travel. With no foreign transaction fee, it is also a reasonable Visa to carry on trips abroad.
