Our take
The Bank of America Travel Rewards earns an unlimited 1.5 points per dollar on everything, with no annual fee and no foreign transaction fee. The catch sits at redemption: points are worth a flat 1 cent each, but only as statement credits that erase travel and dining purchases — flights, hotel stays, vacation rentals, baggage fees, and restaurants including takeout. If you have nothing travel- or dining-shaped on your statement, the points just sit there.
The public offer is 25,000 online bonus points — a $250 value — after $1,000 in purchases in the first 90 days, and it redeems the same way: as a $250 statement credit against travel and dining. Bank of America advertises it right on the product page, so no elevated affiliate link is needed to get it.
A note on the boost this card was famous for: Bank of America replaced Preferred Rewards with the new BofA Rewards program in May 2026. The product page now promises "a rewards bonus on every credit card purchase" for enrolled customers but no longer quantifies it, so the old up-to-2.62% Platinum Honors math can no longer be assumed. If you keep serious balances at Bank of America or Merrill, check your actual multiplier before counting on it.
In a wallet, it plays the international floor: the Unlimited Cash Rewards earns the same 1.5% but tacks a 3% foreign transaction fee onto every purchase abroad, so the Travel Rewards is the Bank of America card to carry overseas. At home, let the Customized Cash or Premium Rewards take the bonus categories and give this one the long tail — as long as you travel or eat out enough to actually burn the points.

Common questions
- Does Bank of America Travel Rewards have an annual fee?
- No — Bank of America Travel Rewards has no annual fee.
- What rewards does Bank of America Travel Rewards earn on everything else?
- 1.5% on all other purchases, in Cash Back.
- Is the Bank of America Travel Rewards really a cash back card?
- It earns points, but each point is worth a flat 1 cent as a statement credit, so we model it as 1.5% cash back. The restriction is what you can erase: credits apply only against travel and dining purchases, from flights and hotels to takeout.
- What happened to the Preferred Rewards boost on this card?
- Bank of America replaced Preferred Rewards with the BofA Rewards program in May 2026. The card page still advertises a bonus for enrolled customers but no longer states a multiplier, so the old up-to-2.62% figure can't be verified — check your own tier before relying on it.
- Should I get the Travel Rewards or the Unlimited Cash Rewards?
- Both earn an unlimited 1.5x with no annual fee. The Unlimited Cash pays unrestricted cash but charges a 3% foreign transaction fee; the Travel Rewards charges nothing abroad but locks redemption to travel and dining credits. Travelers take this one; homebodies take the cash.
